Resound Sounds Like Trouble

Friday 17th-Sunday 19th June

Sounds Like Trouble follows on from last year’s successful Resound event which brought together a remarkable mix of artists working in sound, experimental musicians and specialist DJ’s to the valleys of Stroud including the now nationally celebrated Kid Carpet.

This years’ event, curated by artist Simon Poulter, presents a series of presentations, sounds and actions which will take place across two days at the Subscription Rooms and The Space Lansdown in Stroud. drawing together music and sound art that deals with places and people that have experienced trouble.

The event begins on the evening of Friday 17th June with a series of live acts and recorded material that will be presented throughout the night, ranging from Michael Kosmide’s experimental journalism in Iraq to Duncan Whitley’s recordings of buildings being demolished and a powerful depiction of the Stephen Lawrence case by Tahera Aziz.

Headlining on Saturday 18th June will be Belfast punk band LaFaro a full on three piece band with raging guitar, bass chords and heavy hitting drums. They are causing quite a stir over in their home city Belfast and after their triumphant performance on the Radio 1 stage at Vital04 in Botanic Gardens, Belfast, have been described as one of the best bands to emerge from the scene there in recent years.

Lafaro are serving up something that’s considerably rougher on the gut the riffs are mountainous, the bottom end shudders and your entrails start to rumble in sympathy.” BBC online

Also performing will be Machines From The Future with a techno-punk set, a Theremin performance from Michael Kosmides and a non descript live set from The Owl Project. The evening should prove to be an extrodinarally stimulating experience and one that should not be missed.

Three new pieces of work will also be presented from the Resound series of bursaries. Also following on from last year we will be presenting new work informally through the Resound Audio Lounge at the Sub Rooms Cafe. A library of work and interactive sound pieces for leisurely delectation.
